The 7v7 Football Packing List (or Even One HOT Football Game)

7v7 is a different animal than a full pads weekend.

Less gear. More games. And in Texas, significantly more sun.

So my list gets shorter. My hydration list does not.

🏈 FOR THE PLAYER

  • Jerseys. Home and away if the team issues both.

  • Mouthguards, plus a spare. Buy the cheap multipack. They vanish.

  • The soft shell helmet.

  • A dry pair of socks for every game.

  • An extra pair of dry underwear. The boys probably won't take the time to change. But there may come a weekend when they are very glad they had them.

  • A dry shirt to change into. They will sweat through everything by the first or second game.

  • Blister bandaids. Add a few for your teammates too.

  • Odor balls for the cleats. Your car will thank you.

  • A large Yeti jug. Fill it before you leave.

  • Cooling towels. The Sukeen 4 pack is the one we use. They come in their own little pouches with a carabiner, so they clip right onto a bag. If you're feeling generous, get enough for the whole team and throw them in a Playmate cooler with ice water.

  • The cleats. I'm not joking. DO NOT forget the stinky cleats!!

πŸͺ‘ SIDELINE SETUP

  • CLIQ portable chairs. The 2 pack. They're small, they collapse down to almost nothing, and they go anywhere.

  • A shade umbrella, if you're an umbrella person. I'm not, but a lot of my friends swear by them. Get the UV protection heat repelling kind. Small, packable, collapsible.

Texas football fields offer zero shade, and the turf often becomes hotter than the surface of the sun.

β˜€οΈ HOT WEATHER

This is the whole ballgame in Texas.

πŸ₯€ HYDRATION

  • Gatorade for the kids.

  • Nuun for me, because it isn't too sweet.

  • H2 tabs. I love these. I put them in my water at least twice a day, tournament weekend or not.

  • Extra water, because its hard to come by, expensive, or both.

πŸ₯¨ THE SNACK STASH- MY KIDS’ FAVORITES

  • Chomps meat sticks

  • Barebells protein bars

  • Quest protein chips

  • Skinny Pop

  • Nerds Gummy Clusters

My own bag looks a little different. Perfect bars and sparkling water. And who am I kidding, probably the Nerds Gummy Clusters too.

πŸ‘œ THE MOM BAG

  • Monti Socialite cooler bag, to hold the extra sparkling waters!

  • My Rothy's tote as a catch all. Everything fits in it, it holds up in all kinds of weather, and when I get home I can throw the whole thing in the washing machine.

  • eos lip moisturizer.

  • Portable charger- the heat drains your battery when you’re trying to capture videos

  • Wet wipes

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Small first aid basics

  • Advil and Tylenol

  • Hair ties

  • Ziploc bags for wet or muddy things

  • A few grocery bags for trash and dirty cleats

πŸ“± LOGISTICS

All of this lives on your phone, because who prints things anymore?

  • Tournament waivers

  • Insurance cards

  • Parking passes

  • Whatever app the tournament runs on, downloaded and updated before you leave

  • Travel reservations flagged and easy to find

One warning. Fields are famous for dead zones, and when they aren't, three thousand people are all on the same overworked cell tower. Screenshot or download everything so it still works with no signal.

🚫 WHAT NOT TO BRING

  • Big coolers

  • Old school bulky folding chairs

  • Anything else bulky you'll have to lug across a half mile of parking lot

If it doesn't collapse or pack flat, leave it home.

abide & flourish 🏈
